It was painted on the ground and so it shall be exhibited on the ground!
At 200cm in height and 1.8metres (roughly) in width this work is about the physical presence of a painting and the image it holds. This work seeks motion through static images, and the repetitious motif of the horsemen to enhance the magnitude of the works and in effect multiply the mass of the piece. Mystery accelerates the sense of the oncoming physical force.

Sábháil sinn / bright anxiety brings together six contemporary Irish-based artists, with work which encompasses photography, drawing, sculpture and installation. The bi-lingual title refers loosely to both a wish for salvation or escape that seems to resonate within these artworks, and the restless energy they contain. Materially the work in this exhibition is very varied, ranging from clay, embroidery and paint to found components and digital prints.
What unites these pieces is the use of repetition, either as a production process, (as in the dark humor of Laura Angell’s painstakingly embroidered prints) or as a powerful aesthetic affect (as with the urgency suggested by John Conway’s repeated cavalry motif). The vulnerable surface of Diane Reid’s clay sculptures are in themselves suggestive of a accumulative delicate touch – a delicacy that is echoed in the fragile accuracy of Peter Kelly’s black and white series of digital prints. The idea of the open-ended series can also be traced through the various works in the show. The seemingly adhoc experimental nature of Robin Jones’ 3-dimensional drawings contain the ghosts of many other possible permutations. And, in Nuala Ní Fhlathúin’s site-specific raw clay installation, a single repeated form is used to colonize and inhabit available space.
